3-Day Nashville Itinerary:
A Weekend in Music City

Planning a weekend in Nashville? Music City can feel like two totally different trips depending on who you’re traveling with.

One weekend might mean rooftop bars, live music, and late nights on Broadway.
Another might be zoo visits, playgrounds, and park adventures with kids.

Here’s how to spend a long weekend in Nashville both ways.

A Quick Note Before We Dive In

Go to the Ryman.

Tour it during the day if you can. See a show there if at all possible. The Ryman Auditorium is called the Mother Church of Country Music for a reason — and experiencing it in person is one of those genuinely special Nashville moments. Don't skip it in favor of another night on Broadway.

Yes, there's Broadway. Yes, there are bachelorette parties everywhere. Nashville is fully aware of its reputation and leans into it hard.

But here's what I want you to know as someone who actually lives here: Nashville is so much more than that. And the best version of a Nashville trip is the one that goes a little deeper than Lower Broadway.

This is the guide I hand to everyone who asks me what to do in my city. Use it however you want — whether you're here for a weekend girls trip, a family visit, or you just moved to town and need a starting point.

Nashville Weekend Itinerary (Adults)

Night one: ease in

Fly in, check into your hotel downtown or in The Gulch, and start with dinner at 5th & Broadway — Nashville's modern food hall with everything from hot chicken to sushi. Easy, good, no decisions required after a travel day.

Then wander down to Broadway and pop into a few honky-tonks. Every bar has a live band. Just follow the music. One night on Broadway is great. Two nights starts to feel like the same night twice.

Broadway is loud, crowded, and exactly what you expect. Do it once. Then spend the rest of your trip finding the Nashville that doesn't show up on TikTok.

The music history day

This is my favorite Nashville day to recommend. Start at the Ryman Auditorium for a self-guided or guided tour. Then the Country Music Hall of Fame — genuinely worth a few hours, even if country isn't your thing. The story of how Nashville became Music City is fascinating.

If your visit lines up with a show at the Ryman — buy tickets. Seriously. Seeing live music in that room is one of the best things you can do in this city.

Only in Nashville

  • Goo Goo Chocolate Co. — make your own custom Goo Goo Cluster. Nashville's original candy. Worth the stop.

  • The Listening Room Café — dinner and a show where songwriters perform their own music in an intimate setting. Completely different vibe from Broadway. Really special.

  • Lip Lab — create your own custom lipstick. Great for a girls trip.

Neighborhoods worth your time

  • 12 South — charming, walkable, great boutiques, good coffee, the murals. Classic Nashville neighborhood vibe.

  • The Gulch — more polished, great restaurants, good hotel base if you want to be close to downtown without being on Broadway.

  • East Nashville — where the locals actually hang out. Independent restaurants, dive bars, creative energy.

Brunch before you leave

Urban Grub in 12 South. Southern brunch classics, great atmosphere, consistently good. Don't leave Nashville without it.

Nashville Weekend (With Kids)

Nashville is genuinely great with kids — more so than most people expect.

Nashville Zoo

One of the best zoos in the Southeast. Great animal exhibits, a massive playground, and — you can pet kangaroos. Plan at least half a day.

Adventure Science Center

Hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, interactive displays. Great for curious kids or a rainy day.

Centennial Park & the Parthenon

Beautiful green space with a full-scale replica of the Athenian Parthenon inside — including a massive Athena statue. Kids love it. Adults are genuinely impressed.

Cheekwood Estate & Gardens

Especially great in spring and fall. Gardens, sculptures, seasonal exhibits. A beautiful few hours for families.

A slower day outside the city

Head out to Mt. Juliet — about 25 minutes from downtown — for a completely different pace. Hermitage playground, Long Hunter State Park, Charlie Daniels Park, and Flour Your Dreams bakery for pastries and coffee. It's where the locals actually live.

Andrew Jackson's Hermitage

If your family is into history, this is worth it. The former home of President Andrew Jackson with beautiful grounds and a museum that brings early Tennessee history to life.
